Enjoy Free Wine Tasting & Charity Auction
at Jimmy Yin's Asian Grill & Wok Bar
St. Louis, MO July 8, 2004 -- Come join the creative fun at a free wine tasting to support a great cause at Jimmi Yin's Asian Grill & Wok Bar at 8 p.m. on July 8.
Artist Euripides "Rip" Kastaris, whose work ranges from interactive CD-ROM images for singer Sting to fine art prints for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Committee, will put "finishing touches" on an original mural he recently created for Jimmi Yin's and auction posters that he produced for this year's Olympic games – auction proceeds will support disabled athletes.
Terry Bozzay, proprietor of Jimmi Yin's, a popular Pan-Asian restaurant, commissioned Kastaris to create an original wall mural for the dining room and will host the free wine tasting to raise money for the non-profit Kostas Z Foundation, which supports the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games and similar activities.
"Rip's artwork for Jimmi Yin's is fantastic and we want to support the spirit of athletes who never give up," said Bozzay. The restaurant is at 9739 Manchester Road in suburban Rock Hill.
The five-by-ten foot mural, installed by Kastaris at Jimmi Yin's on June 3, depicts a stylish montage of traditional Asian symbols and images. Blending traditional Eastern icons in a post-modern scheme, Kastaris painted Asian faces, golden fish, rolling blue waves, oriental calligraphy and a bounty of delicacies to adorn the new wall at Jimmy Yin's. At the July 8 event, he will finalize the mural with gold leaf and greet guests at the wine tasting, which will feature free samples of vintage Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot.
Kastaris has signed and framed a beautiful original poster that he created for this year's U.S. Olympic Team that he calls "Return to Glory," which features an image of the goddess Athena accompanied by a marathon runner carrying an Olympic torch. It is based on an image Kastaris created for the U.S. Olympic Committee. Kastaris and Bozzay will auction this magnificent image to the highest bidder starting about 10 p.m. All financial proceeds from the auction, and also from sales of posters reflecting other images Kastaris created for this year's Olympic games, will be donated to Kostas Z Foundation.
On June 17, Kostas Zografopoulos, a friend of Kastaris, in a wheelchair carried the Olympic torch through downtown St. Louis on its tour across the United States to celebrate this year's games. Zografopoulos founded the Kostas Z Foundation after both his legs were amputated following a car accident instigated by a drunk driver in another car. His website is http://www.kostasz.org.
"The motto of the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens is ‘Empowering the Human Spirit Beyond Physical Limitations' – we support that idea," said Kastaris.
Jimmi Yin's is a popular destination for people who value Pan-Asian menu variety, colorful food presentation and fast service in a smoke-free environment. More than 20 entrees, plus five salad meals and four different soups, are served.
"Our customers are captivated by the original mural that Rip created and the mood it creates for Jimmi Yin's, " said Bozzay, adding that bottles of wine will be available for purchase during the event.
Euripides "Rip" Kastaris has been an artist for more than 20 years and has been profiled in the PBS documentary series "The Greek-Americans." His studio, Petra Fine Art, Inc., is in St. Louis but his work is shown worldwide. His award-winning Olympic works include the "Fire and Ice" series, the 2004 Athena series, and the epic mural "Kyklos-Circle of Glory" for permanent display at the VIP center in Athens Olympic Stadium. Kastaris graduated from Washington University as Valedictorian of the School of Fine Arts.
